How May Street Bicycles was Born....
After 12 years of bike fits for clients out of the studio, I moved the business Velo Smart Performance Lab from the house to a new location to what is now known as May Street Bicycles in Southern Pines, NC.
So what am I about and how do I see my business?
If you walk in my shop you see multiple bike brands and these bikes are typically mid to upper level quality bikes. I also carry some family bikes and fitness bikes. For the most part I offer multiple brands and styles of bikes to meet the cycling and multi-sport client’s needs and not my bottom line. I honestly feel the bottom line will take care of itself if I focus on my passion which is meeting my client’s needs.
Rather than trying to sell a client a bike when she/he already has a bike (although improperly set up or ill-fitted), I focus on making the client comfortable and efficient as best as I can on the bike they are currently riding. I feel once they do decide to get a new bike they will consider coming back to see me.
I provide clients additional services such as metabolic testing to help them with accurate training zones, nutrition strategies, and goal setting. Many clients come in for a bike fit or assessment and are being coached by a “certified” USAC or USAT coach. But many of these clients have no clue what their training zones, nutrition and pacing strategies should be. My goal is to try to bridge the gap and to collaborate with the well versed coach (and educate the less versed coach), share information, and help the client become successful with meeting their goals.
I provide a very specialized approach with altitude training. I not only work with athletes peaking for a specific event I use altitude training as a weight management and weight reduction method for folks with a very slow metabolism. Altitude training is also very helpful for clients that have an injury or disability that cannot train very effectively. These clients work at a very low intensity at a higher altitude, or even sitting calmly at very high altitude (with significant injury, etc.
I offer personal training, strength and conditioning, and corrective exercises. This is something I am very passionate about and I will continue providing these services to my clients.
I hope to see you swing in to the May Street Bicycle Shop to say hello.
